Turning ambition into action—one light at a time.

Fort Wayne Shine, Capstone Project by Cooper Routsong

STEP 01 - The Idea

My Capstone began with a simple question: how can a high school student turn a small service into a professional business?

I created Fort Wayne Shine to explore entrepreneurship in a real-world setting—offering Christmas light hanging services that brighten homes and local businesses while helping me learn about communication, marketing, and time management.

STEP 02 - The Learning

This project isn’t just about hanging lights—it’s about understanding what makes a business work. From quoting homes and scheduling installations to customer service and budgeting, I’m applying skills from math, economics, design, and communication classes at Oak Farm Montessori High School.

Every job teaches me something new about leadership, problem-solving, and professionalism.

STEP 03 - The Impact

Through Fort Wayne Shine, I’m gaining real entrepreneurial experience while serving my community. I get to help families and businesses celebrate the season while building something of my own—a balance of hands-on work and academic learning that reflects what Oak Farm Montessori’s Capstone program is all about.
